Tom DeLay- Unemployment Benefits Keep People From Looking For Jobs
Candy Crowley is the liar, Tom DeLay is the fool!
There is an argument to be made that these extensions, the unemployment benefits keeps people from going and finding jobs. In fact there are some studies that have been done that show people stay on unemployment compensation and they dont look for a job until two or three weeks before they know the benefits are going to run out, DeLay told CNN's Candy Crowley Sunday.
People are unemployed because they want to be? asked Crowley.
Well, it is the truth. and people in the real world know it, said DeLay.
Tom Delay is telling the truth, but foolishly misspoke. Then he fell for Candy Crowley's bait and made it worse. He did not say, "people are unemployed because they want to be."
People do not do what they have to, until they know the money is running out. That doesn't mean they aren't trying at some level, but our unemployment benefits are good, better than many of the jobs the unemployed would have to take if not for the benefits.
Where we have a problem is when the employment outlook stinks for as long as it has, what do we do. The reality is, many of the unemployed could find a job tomorrow if they had to, but not as good a one as they lost. The hard question is, when do we force them to take that job? Two years and counting is definitely too long even in this economy. Easy for me to say, hard for the politicians to deal with!
